The Zirbelkiefer (Pinus cembra), also called Arbe, Arve, Zirbe or Zirbel, is a plant of the family Pinaceae. Their home are the Alps and the Carpathians. The tree can grow up to 25 meters high. The trees can grow up to 1000 years old. Their very fragrant wood is used as furniture and carved wood.

The heartwood, initially reddish and later reddish brown, smells strongly aromatic and is surrounded by a relatively narrow yellowish sapwood. The wood is relatively light, is easy to work with, is nail and screw-resistant and has an even, fine structure. The decoration is given a decorative structure by many, healthy ingrown and dark reddish brown branches. The kiln density is 0.37 to 0.56 g / cm³. This makes the Swiss pine the only hardwood among the conifers.

The wood of the Swiss stone pine is mainly used because of the lively drawing in the interior for paneling and as furniture wood for farm kitchens and bedrooms.

In South Tyrol, various extracts of Swiss stone pine were used as remedies in the 18th century – among others by the Raggin farmers’ doctors. The oils with the typical pine scent that flow out of the chips over a long period of time are supposed to ensure a deep and healthy sleep. The wood of the North American Weymouth pine, which was planted to a small extent in southern German forests, can be used in some cases as an alternative to Swiss stone pine.

We store this wonderful wood in various dimensions.
